"I think that the best way to generate referrals is to stay in touch
with all my business contacts. That's why I keep a pile of personal cards
on my desk and start every single day by hand writing a few notes to my
past clients, friends, even some of my peers. I send notes to my local
politicians too and quite often to other people whose names I see in newspaper.
I call my contacts frequently - but I do not try to sell them. I believe
