Zoloft is prescribed to treat people who have depression, panic, anxiety, or obsessive-compulsive symptoms.

Formulation – Zoloft contains sertraline hydrochloride equivalent to 25, 50 and 100 mg of sertraline and the following inactive ingredients: dibasic calcium phosphate dihydrate, D & C Yellow #10 aluminium lake (in 25 mg tablet), FD & C Blue #1 aluminium lake (in 25 mg tablet), FD & C Red #40 aluminium lake (in 25 mg tablet), FD & C Blue #2 aluminium lake (in 50 mg tablet), hydroxypropyl cellulose, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, polyethylene glycol, polysorbate 80, sodium starch glycolate, synthetic yellow iron oxide (in 100 mg tablet), and titanium dioxide.

Zoloft is a drug that belongs to the Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) drug class, and it has been found useful in additional to its main prescribed use to treat Depression Social Anxiety Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder and Panic Disorder. Side Effects / Precautions

The side effects that can be experienced when taking Zoloft include sleepiness, nervousness, insomnia, dizziness, nausea, skin rash, headache, diarrhoea, constipation, upset stomach, stomach pain, changes in appetite, abnormal ejaculation, impotence, decreased sex drive, difficulty having an orgasm, dry mouth, and weight loss.

Zoloft does have side effects as mentioned above, and if you experience any of the above side effects, you should consult a doctor or medical professional immediately. As a precaution you should also have a discussion with your doctor to see if this drug is suitable for you if you have any pre-existing medical conditions.

Alternatives

Xanax – One of the many different alternative drugs that you may be prescribed is this one, and it is a drug that has been found to be a good alternative should you be suffering from depression. There are several other alternatives you could be prescribed by your doctor for that condition and they are trazodone, citalopram, sertraline, Lexapro, Cymbalta.

Sertraline – Should you be suffering from Social Anxiety Disorder and you are suffering any side effects then this drug is one alternative you could or may be prescribed. Should you be found to be intolerable then you will find there are several other alternatives available including venlafaxine, Paxil, paroxetine, Effexor XR, fluvoxamine.

Trazodone – If you are suffering any of the side effects that are listed above and you are suffering from a Major Depressive Disorder then you may be prescribed this drug. However, there are several others which have been found to be suitable alternatives and they include sertraline, Lexapro, Cymbalta, Prozac, Wellbutrin.

Xanax – You could have been diagnosed as suffering from Panic Disorder and if so there are a range of alternatives drugs available which could be prescribed to you, if you have been found to have been suffering any side effects from other drugs used to treat that condition. The different alternative drugs that can be taken to treat that condition include sertraline, Prozac, clonazepam, alprazolam, lorazepam.
